Owl.

An owl photo. I’m serious. After that pretentious shit in the last post I’m going back to basics.

I have two of this awesome bird that I was lucky enough to get really close to. There were two shots I thought were ok, but I’m not going to use another post to put up a similar photo, so I’ll just include it smaller here.

I like the first one a lot more though – its a much more intimate view in my opinion.

I doubt I will ever be the kind of picture-taker that specializes in one kind of photography. I’m kind-of taking myself through a self imposed apprenticeship where the goal is to learn and try as many different kinds of photography as I can. Although don’t expect fruit bowl still lifes.

Geez dude, that’s wicked! In Botswana, at the Garden Lodge specifically, they had a nest on the roof of the lodge, where quite a few owls lived. At night, I would often see 5 or 6 flying around, beautiful birds.

    Rocking photograph!

Really good shot! Did you take a shot of the whole bird? Where was it?

These are both excellent. Said it when I first saw them, and looking again, I was right. Excellent.

    Q. Do you check colourspace before you post images? I remember them both a touch more vivid? Browsers are dom. if it’s not sRGB IEC61966-2.1 with the profile embedded, most of them will just make their own decisions, involving murk.

@Chris Must’ve been some amazing wildlife in Botswana. Next time you go, get a good camera :)

@pbdphoto Hey Pat. I may have got one or two of the whole bird. It was at the World of Birds.

@André Thanks André. Really good point about colour. I also think my iMac may be a lot brighter than most monitors, so they may look more vivid to me.

I must definitely look into colour profiles.
