More Sea. Sorry. Just a by-product of spending more time there.

And yeah this is another black & white. I was tempted with colour for a little minute because the sky actually looked quite awesome. I do love black & white though. Colour tends to hit first – if you strip the colour, you sometimes reveal more subtleties. Things I like.

Another one from the vault.

The sensor on my Canon G9 interpreted the light in its own cool way, much more interesting than the real scene.

So this one is pretty much unedited.

A really old photo. What I plan to do is slowly migrate some of my old shots from my dormant Flickr account.

The two things I like the most (apart from showcasing the sexiest set of knees on the West Coast) is how the shot has become abstract, and I also like the shape of the negative space.

Sometimes sunsets bring out the zombies in us – we take out the camera, and without thinking point towards the light.

So, although I try and avoid taking direct pictures of sunsets – there are times like this when the sky and clouds are lit up in amazing ways that you just have to let the zombie out and unleash the Japanese tourist in you.

So while I was writing this up I had iTunes on shuffle and up came a Robin Thicke song, “Lost Without You”. I looked at the photo and thought, oh, ok.

I’ve recently discovered the amazing photography of Ansil Adams. By all accounts a larger than life personality with just enough genius, paradox, and eccentricity to make him instantly likable to me.

So anyway, while Adams was a master and I’m just a punk, I thought I’d try out a black and white landscape style.

It seems silly not to enjoy the sunsets while its warm. My drive home is alongside the beach. A no brainer really.

Here’s a vertical shot of a similar scene. I also included this one mainly because I quite liked the depth of field and the brilliant light off the rock in the foreground.

Hardly any processing was done on the large image because I wanted to try and preserve the softness of the light. With the second vertical photo though, I did some more processing with the colours and made it a little more contrasty – going for a bit more drama as opposed to serenity.

It’s like in that moment, there is often a reflection of thought/emptying of thoughts or a moment of feeling/non-feeling. I normally find it quite interesting to try and capture.

Sometimes I find real beauty in incredibly simple natural things.

I think maybe if someone told me that this photo is too simple I might actually take that as a compliment.

A rarer capture than a snow leopard in the Sahara, and even rarer that Sue would (after much convincing) allow me to post this photo.

To those that know her, Sue is notoriously camera shy – and anyone who tries to take a photo of her will probably be left bewildered as to why such a beautiful woman would be ducking and diving to avoid a camera.

The shoreline is such an amazing place for reflection – literally, externally, internally.

This year its my self promise to visit the ocean more – enjoy more sunsets, and be out in nature whenever I can.
